Location

The Store and The Wedge are both part of Mewslade Cottage, in the small hamlet of Middleton that is part of Rhossili. This is all on the south western tip of the Gower Peninsular.  Rhossili is often referred to as 'The Jewel in the Crown' of the Swansea area, boasting the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Most of the cliff land, hills and moors are managed by the National Trust and the area boasts some of the best beaches in the world along with estuaries, marshes, ring forts, castles, caves. The peninsula is famous for its wildlife, water sports opportunities, its beautiful vistas and its plethora of activities. We are 35 minutes from Swansea and a mile from the famous Rhossili beach but there are better less busy ones closer to hand that can be reached on foot.

Middleton and Rhossili are joined linearly and under a mile from end to end. The Store and The Wedge are both in Middleton, close to small beaches of Fall and Mewslade. It is a small village surrounded by cliffs, beaches and a hill. It has a National Trust car park and shop, a couple of cafes, a gallery, a pub with a great view and 200 mostly residential homes. The Store is about 200m from the cliff path and the cliffs are owned and maintained by the National trust but still farmed. As well as the beach Rhossili Hill is of interest and is Gower's highest point with spectacular 360 degree views over towards Pembroke , the Black Mountains, Swansea and down to Lundy and Hartland point. It joins Rhossili at the southern end of the beach with Llangennith at the northern end and boasts neolithic burial stones and the remnants of a WW2 listening station. It is quiet and sleepy out of season but busy on sunny days in summer. The area’s main economy is farming and tourism but Rhossili has been luckier than many of Gower’s beachside villages and hasn’t got any holiday chalets or static caravan sites such as at Oxwich, Port Eynon, Horton and Llangennith.

There are many pubs and good places to eat on the Gower as well as great cafes and award winning bakeries. See link above for activities.
